How can a mirror help you greatly improve your golf game? It sounds funny, but did you know that using a full length mirror can really help your game in the long run? It’s true. Here are some reasons and methods for using the mirroring technique to help improve your golf stance and golf swing.

Why Using the Mirroring Technique Can Change Your Game (For the Good)

Let us say that it is raining cats and dogs outside, or else it is the dead of winter. What can you do so that come spring your golf stance and swing will be up and running? Using the mirroring technique is a great way to practice when you simply can't be on the green. Take the time you have in the off-season in order to re-grip your golf club. Get your loft and lies checked at the pro shop. Once your clubs have been re-gripped, start off with the mirroring technique in order to get back to your game.

How Do I Do the Mirroring Technique?

Well clearly, you will need a mirror. But not just any mirror will do. You will want to set up a mirror in preferably the most high ceiling room that you have access to. This may be in your home office, your garage, or wherever else you have access to swing and practice with ease. Make it a full length mirror. Bring along your six irons into the room with you. Again, make sure you have plenty of room to work in! No delicate china or picture frames around, please.

Getting a New Perspective on Things

Once you have your space and mirror set up, here is what you should do. The mirroring technique allows you to get a new perspective on your golf game. Stand in front of the mirror and get into your normal stance and grip. Observe how you look. Do you look tense, rigid, or flexible? Make a note of these things. Stand there until you feel comfortable. It is recommended that you practice using the mirroring technique around ten minutes each day.

Getting a Look at Your Grip

One of the first things you should look at when you are standing in front of the mirror is your grip. Do you know what a good grip should look at? Get a good golf instruction book that comes with detailed and clear illustrations. Practice this grip and then practice while looking in the mirror. don't just look down at your hands. Look in the mirror while you practice.

Examine Your Club Face in the Mirror

The next thing you should do is look at your club face in your mirror. No, this is not the face you make at a club, but rather the face of your club. How does it look? Open? Closed? Square? Crooked?

Take a Good Look at Your Golf Stance

Many players never take the time to take a good look at their golf stance. In many cases, it can really make all the difference. When you sole your club on the ground, your stance should ideally look something like this: your feet should be set apart slightly wider than the width of your shoulders. For most players (those that are right-handed), the left foot should be opened at about 20 degrees. Some players flare their right foot as well. Thing depends on your individual flexibility. Those players who are generally less flexible will find that their right foot will be flared out more. When you get into your golf stance, make sure that you keep each foot balanced equally.
